The governing council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will meet on September 5 in Mumbai to decide on the future course of action on the number of games that will be played in the fourth edition of the tournament.
According to the BCCI, the IPL GC will meet at the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai to decide on a host of issues like the draft schedule for the 2011 season, including number of matches.
There will also be a move to finalise all the player regulations, contractual obligations and registration of player contracts.
Earlier, the governing council had met on August 20 to decide the same, but could not do so because of the discussion of accounts had taken up a lot of time. However, it is almost certain that the number of games will not be kept at 94 as had been earlier planned by the IPL. In order to reduce the number of games, the panel will need to come out with a new format for the IPL
According to sources, the shorter format may have about 74 games, instead of the 60 matches that are being currently played in the tournament.
