Mohammad Asif’s former girl-friend, Veena Malik has said that he had claimed to her that he had bribed the doctor involved in the IPL tribunal that decided his doping case.
Asif had been caught doping in a test conducted by the IPL in 2008 and had to appear before an IPL tribunal. The second sample was again tested and came out to be positive.
According to Veena Malik, the beleaguered Pakistani bowler had allegedly confided in her that the doctor who was supposed to be a part of the IPL tribunal had told him to tell the panel that he had used the drug while using his eye drops to overcome an inflammation.
Asif is currently involved in a match-fixing allegation against him and the rest of the Pakistani cricketers in England, after the fourth Test match at Lord’s. It is said that after the sting video was released indicating the role of some of the Pakistani cricketers in the match-fixing, the ICC has decided to investigate 82 of the games involving Pakistan in recent times.
