Preview to Champions League T20: Guyana

by staff on August 25, 2010

The Champions League T20 will be played amongst ten teams in September 2010 in South Africa and will have Guyana represent the Caribbean region in the tournament.

How they qualified:

Guyana were the winners of the Caribbean T20 Cup tournament that was held in the West Indies. They beat Barbados in the final of the tournament after the previous year’s winners, Trinidad and Tobago had crashed out of the tournament in the semi-final.

Strengths

Their biggest strength is that not too many know much about them. They were not expected to win the qualification tournament either, but the captaincy of Ramnaresh Sarwan did help a lot as the youngsters forged a good tournament together. Much like the Trinidad and Tobago side last year, they will be the surprise package of the tournament.

Weaknesses

They do not possess too many big name players, especially with the exclusion of Shivnarine Chanderpaul. This will mean that the lack of experience on South African pitches will be telling on the inexperienced players.

Players to watch out:

Look out for Jonathon Foo and Lennox Cush, two players who seem to be made for this format of the game. Cush has already played for the USA team.
