The second match of the Champions League T20 will be played between the Warriors and Wayamba. The game will be played at the Port Elizabeth, which is the home ground for the Warriors. Wayamba is the sole representative from Sri Lanka in the Champions League T20 this year. They had also qualified for the tournament in 2009, which makes them only one of the three teams to qualify again. However, much like last season, they will not go into the tournament as favourites. The reason for that is the lack of experience that the side has on pitches which will assist the pace bowlers.
The bounce on the track should make it more difficult for the batsmen, and that will mean that if the home team can extract any kind of bounce from the wickets, it will be a difficult task for the Lankan outfit.
Wayamba will be led by Jehan Mubarak, but their main batsman is Mahela Jayawardene, who had even won them the final of the domestic T20 tournament – that allowed them to qualify for this tournament.
Chanaka Welegedara will be their key bowler along with Farveez Maharoof, but the most important aspect of their bowling will be spin and it will be interesting to see how they go about on the harder tracks in the Proteas.
The Warriors have a strong bowling outfit, which will be led by Makhaya Ntini. There is Juan Theron, along with Nicky Boje and Juan Theron, all of whom have played international cricket and will understand the nuances of this format.
What will be interesting to see is how does the more inexperienced batting of the Warriors shape up against a bowling attack which can get incisive if the tracks support their spinners a tad. Given that this is a day-game, things could get interesting!
